Soprano Linda Larson has been praised for her engaging stage presence and audience connection, as well as her thoughtful musical interpretation. Her operatic experiences bring a dramatic element to all her performances: she has sung with the New York City Opera National Company, Indianapolis Opera, Opera Memphis, Peoria Civic Opera, Opera Theater of Rochester, Tacoma Opera, and others. A graduate of the Resident Artist Training Program at Tri-Cities Opera in Binghamton, New York, she has performed many leading roles with that company, including Violetta, Musetta, Pamina, Susanna, Gilda, and Abigail in The Crucible. In her 2002 Syracuse Opera debut, Linda sang La Boheme's Musetta; she returned to Syracuse in 2004 for Mabel in Pirates of Penzance. In other recent productions, she has sung Gretel, Adina, and the title role in Floyd's Susannah.
Linda is particularly interested in new American music, and her recent concerts included several premieres: music of Louis Gioia with Encompass New Opera, a new oratorio on the story of Bethsheba by Jason Heald, and the soprano version of chamber music by Dan Welcher. She has sung John Harbison's The Rewaking at the Chintimini Chamber Music Festival; Richard Einhorn's haunting Voices of Light with Anonymous 4; Robert X. Rodriguez’ opera Monkey See, Monkey Do with Dallas-based Voices of Change; and the premiere of David Borden’s Kyrie.
In the spring of 2004, Linda sang diverse concert programs including the Beethoven Missa Solemnis with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra; "Vienna 1897-1917: A Glimpse" with the Finger Lakes Chamber Ensemble, featuring music of Arnold Schoenberg, Alma Mahler, Gustav Mahler, and Alexander Zemlinsky; and "Songs of Contemplation and Celebration," a recital featuring 20C. American composers. Linda has also appeared with the Syracuse Symphony, Erie Philharmonic, Chautauqua Institution, Alaska Chamber Ensemble, New Texas Festival, Westchester Concert Singers, Catskill Choral Society, and others. She is featured on The Pulse of an Irishman, a recording of Beethoven arrangements of British Isles folksongs noted for its "youthful and unpretentious singing."
Honored as regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions, Linda earned degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Michigan. She participated in the Twentieth Century Opera and Song program at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Formerly coordinator of Vocal Coaching Program at Cornell University, she is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, American Guild of Musical Artists, and the College Music Society. Professor Larson received her B.M. from the University of Michigan, her M.M. from the University of Texas at Austin, and her D.M.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.
