About Village Records

The Village Records Story
Located in the heart of Greenwich Village in Manhattan, Village Records is a young and revolutionary record label. Composed of an enthusiastic staff of over twenty NYU Music Business students, it is a student-run organization that offers free publicity, marketing, promotion, distribution, manufacturing and a non-exclusive contract for its artists.

Village Records was formed in 1995 by New York University's Music Business Program as a way to introduce students to the world of finding, developing, producing, and promoting music. Apart from conducting and overseeing all the traditional functions of an independently run record label, Village Records has recently turned its attention towards the digital dissemination of music while exploring the budding applications of New Media.

Village Records welcomes quality demos from prospective artists and inquiries from the media about its curriculum and operation.

Mission Statement
Village Records is dedicated to establishing itself as a not-for-profit leader in the recognition and exposure of upcoming trends in the music industry. Through the use of non-exclusive artist contracts and a diverse, young staff, our goal is to distribute and promote high quality, commercially viable product from artists who would otherwise have little or no access to the knowledge and tools needed to release a successful record.

As an independent label run by students in New York University's Music Business Program, Village Records offers marketing, manufacturing and distribution, as well as web site visibility to aritists affiliated with the company. In years to come, Village Records aims to expand into other valuable areas such as production, touring and artist development.
