
Prerequisite Degree
Applicants for the Advanced Certificate must have earned a masters degree in music.
Placement Exams & Proficiency Evaluation
- Music Theory and Aural Comprehension
- Music History
- English, French, German, and Italian Diction
Placement exams and proficiency evaluations are given prior to the start of the fall semester. For each exam that you do not pass you will be assigned a review course. Students who have earned a BM or an MM from the Steinhardt School at NYU are not required to take placement exams in Music Theory, Aural Comprehension, or Music History. All applicants will be tested in language dictions - both written and oral.
Please note that credits earned by taking review courses do not count toward the total number of credits required for the Advanced Certificate.
Credits Required
A minimum of eighteen (18) credits is required for the completion of an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy. These credits must be earned at the 2000-level, and any classes taken at either the 0000 or 1000-level are considered remedial and will not count toward the degree.
