Music Theatre MM Curriculum
Master of Music in Vocal Performance with Concentration in Music Theatre
A minimum of thirty-six (36) credits is required for the completion of a Master of Music in Vocal Performance. These credits must be earned at the 2000-level, and any classes taken at the 0000 or 1000- level are considered remedial and will not count toward the degree. The recommended time for the completion of this degree is four semesters. However, it is possible to complete in three semesters if the student has no remedial requirements.

Exams are given before the start of the first semester. For each exam, or part of an exam, that you do not pass you will be assigned a remedial course.Remedial courses do not count toward the 36 points required for the degree.
Registration for Private Voice Instruction is required for each semester that you are enrolled on a full-time basis (12 credits or more). A minimum of three semesters is required for the degree. You must be enrolled inPrivate Lessons, Vocal Coaching, and Colloquy in the semester in which you give your recital. (Students must provide their own accompanists for both their lessons and recitals.)
Voice Jury
At the end of two semesters of private voice study you are required to perform a voice jury. You must prepare a minimum of eight (8) songs and must demonstrate that you are making vocal progress and are covering sufficient repertoire to enable you to prepare your Master’s Recital.
Program of Study
You must earn six (6) credits in core courses including:

Three (3) additional credits – assigned by advisement – must be earned from Research/Music History/Literature courses such as:
E85.2046 Music Criticism 3 pts.
E85.2039 Contemporary Music 3 pts.
E85.2067 Music Literature: Baroque Era 3 pts.
E85.2069 Opera in the 20th Century 3 pts.
E85.2073 Music Literature: Classical Era 3 pts.
E85.2074 Music Literature: Romantic Era 3 pts.
A total of nineteen (19) specialization credits are required. They include:

E85.2068 Music Theatre Workshop 3 pts.
E17.2251 Scene Study 2 pts.
E17.2252 Character Study 2 pts.
E85.2364 Vocal Coaching 3 pts.
The terminal experience for the degree is a graduate recital with related course work:

The remaining eight (8) credits are guided electives – by advisement – to be selected from such courses as those listed below. (It is strongly recommended that during your final semester you take the Music Theatre Workshop: Showcase/Professions and Business Skills.)

Additional Requirements:
A Production Requirement of no fewer than twenty (20) hours in non-performing production activities is required. For each semester that you are a full-time student you must enroll inCollegium & Program Meeting – E85.0092.006.
