MPATE-GE 2036 - Advanced Musical Acoustics

Time: 30 hours
Credits: 3 credits
Term: Spring
Instructor: Barry Greenhut

Explores several significant topics in musical acoustics, including room acoustics, sound reproduction and reinforcement, advanced models of musical instrument behavior, and objective correlates of tuning and tonality. Emphasis is placed on developing a detailed under standing of the topics, including their origins in physics and insights into musical practice. Students are trained to define pragmatic analytical strategies and perform professional-caliber research. Course requires students be able to model everyday sound phenomena using the concepts and math of mechanic and be able to design, conduct and report on experiments that combine objective and subjective data, using the scientific method.
