NYU/BMI Music in Advertising Workshop


*The NYU/BMI Music in Advertising Workshop workshop has been canceled for Summer 2016. 

Program Dates: July 22, 2016 - July 24, 2016

(Residential Students Move-in: July 21, Move-out: July 25)

Priority Application Deadline: May 20, 2016

Final Application Deadline: Applications will be accepted until July 1, 2016 on a rolling basis for students who are NOT in need of on-campus housing. 


Intended For: High School Students, Undergraduates, Graduate Students, and Professionals

Program Description & Faculty

This is the first workshop of its type to focus on the eclectic mix of the musician/production skills and the business acumen needed to be successful in these areas. Spearheaded by award-winning media composer Andy Bloch (Human: Music and Sound Design), the faculty and panelists will feature composer Peter Nashel (Duotone Audio Group),and music producer Keith D'Arcy (Universal Music Publishing Group). In a dynamic mix of informative industry panels, faculty critiques sessions and live recordings in the state-of-the-art NYU James Dolan recording studio, participating composers will produce and record their music with top-tier musicians and engineers, under real-world conditions.

Program Costs and Fees

Below are all costs associated with the NYU/BMI Music in Advertising Workshop:

Accepted students will confirm their attendance once they have paid the enrollment deposit (detailed instructions provided in acceptance email). Residential students will have successfully registered for housing once they have paid the housing deposit and completed the housing application (sent via email after student confirms their attendance).

Application Information

A completed application consists of:

  1. A 2016 MPAP Summer Application
  2. Correctly uploaded audition materials in Get Acceptd and a $55 application fee (paid at the end of Acceptd)

Audition Requirements

  • Participant Applicants: Submit Three audio tracks of varied styles of commercial music, each 1-3 minutes in length that demonstrate strong musical, technical and production skills. Additionally include a signed & scanned statement of authorship, and a one-page resume.
  • Auditors are automatically admitted into the workshop and do not need to submit audition materials but must complete a "Get Acceptd" profile and pay the $50 non-refundable fee.
