Selected Student Bios

Amanda Tabor

Amanda Tabor specializes in contemporary and experimental horn playing andhas earned degrees from California Institute of the Arts (BFA, 2005) and the University of California, San Diego (MA, 2008) in that subject.  Her primary teachers have been Daniel Katzen and Warren Gref.

She is currently studying with Ann Ellsworth at NYU Steinhardt.  Amanda has also been a member of Pierre Boulez's Lucerne Festival Academy and recently completed a residency at Dartington International Summer School (2007) with CalArts' New Century Players workingwith Sir Peter Maxwell Davies to perform many of his works including his opera Lighthouse and Sea Eagle, his piece for solo horn. 

Amanda enjoys working with composers to create new works for the horn in hopes of finding new ways for it to be used, thought of and played.  Over the last few years she has commissioned many pieces from composers in a wide variety of styles.  In addition she is the principle horn of the contemporary chamber ensemble inauthentica and a member of the experimental music collective Wholesale Orchestra.
