Student Bio Ryan

Rebecca Ryan, originally from Long Island, New York, began studying opera under the instruction of Dr. Deborah Bedor in 1994.  While in the voice studio of Dr. Bedor, Rebecca became an active member of The Performing Arts Institute of Long Island.  As a soloist in this selective group, Rebecca performed in recitals at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and C. W. Post.  Although she was quite involved in The Performing Arts Institute of Long Island, Rebecca participated in operas and musicals produced annually by her high school.   Rebecca began her collegiate studies at the music conservatory at Indiana University.  She studied classical voice with Teresa Kubiak, and performed in many classical recitals and master classes during her first year at Indiana.  Although she enjoyed her time in Indiana, Rebecca decided to transfer to New York University’s Vocal Performance program where she would be able to study music theatre as well as opera.  Now studying in the voice studio of Dr. Lori McCann, Rebecca has been an avid participant in both music theatre and classical voice at NYU.  Rebecca’s featured roles include Geraldine in A Hand of Bridge, Mrs. Winderkunstein in Introductions and Goodbyes, Helen in The Finishing School, Piggie in Hands Across the Sea, Mother in Ragtime, and Lucille Frank in Parade.  Rebecca is a winner of the classical women’s division of the NATS competition, and has performed as a featured soloist with the Acoustical Society of America.  Rebecca was a performer at NAT’s Kaner and Ebb master class at NYU, and participated in NYSTA’s master class, given by Marni Nixon.
