Elyse Matthews is a first year Master’s candidate in NYU’s Program in Vocal Performance studying classical voice in the studio of Rosa Vento. Elyse earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Voice Performance from the University of North Florida in 2010 and was involved in music throughout Florida for over ten years before returning to her family’s native New York to further her professional career.
Ms. Matthews has been heard as a soprano soloist in Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de confessore, Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Handel’s Messiah. Operatic experience includes the roles of Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Magda Sorel in Menotti’s The Consul, the Touriere and Novice in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, and internationally, Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the historic Estates Theatre in Prague, Czech Republic.
Ms. Matthews will perform as Rosina in NYU’s April 2013 production of The Marriage of Figaro.
