Melania Fernández Porras is a first-year student in the Higher Education and the Professions concentration in NYU Steinhardt. Born in San José, Costa Rica, she graduated from The University of Costa Rica with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Melania danced for 13 years in Jazzgoba Dance Company and completed a one-year program at the Conservatorio El Barco. Melania has trained in jazz, ballet, yoga, gymnastics, and modern and contemporary dance. She has taught jazz dance technique for 8 years in several dance centers and performed in Costa Rica’s National Light Festival, National Beauty Pageant, and Big Band Concerts. She has attended several international dance congresses such as Dance Educators of America, Jazz Dance World Congress, and New York City Dance Alliance. After graduation Melania hopes to open an Art Dance Center in Costa Rica. Melania Fernández Porras
