Ryan Cole is a graduate student in the Master's program in Music Technology at NYU Steinhardt. In 2003 he graduated from CU Boulder with a B.A. in Music (Vocal Performance) and a certificate in Music Technology. While at NYU he has studied and researched a variety of subjects, including immersive audio and sound design. He also did some work with underwater recording in which he built a hydrophone and was able to record the sounds of whales and dolphins in the Monterey Bay, California.
For his final master's project he is building a new prototype for the NIME (New Interface for Musical Expression) he created in the fall of 2006, called the Voccordion. The Voccordion uses the Arduino interface with a variety of sensors to control a vocal harmonizing Max/MSP patch. www.voccordion.com
In the fall of 2006 he had an internship at a post-production facility and is currently interning at Harvestworks as well as another post-house. After completing his degree, he hopes to obtain a job doing sound design for film and television.
