Student Bio: Binal

Asli Binal is a graduate student in the Master's program in Music Technology. She completed her B.S. degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Computer Science with a minor in Electronic Arts. She studied composition there with Neil Rolnick, video art with Branda Miller, and spent most of her years at RPI in the basement studios, which also housed the college radio station where she was a deejay.

After graduation, Asli worked as a software engineer for 10 years at several different companies. Her last job was as a solutions engineer at SpeechWorks, which specialized in Speech Recognition technology. As a result of her current studies in Music Technology at NYU, she says that she came to realize how quickly this field has evolved, and how multifaceted it is.

Since starting the Music Technology Program at NYU, Asli has been engaged with a number of projects including work with JMSL, a Java API for music composition, interactive performance, and intelligent instrument design.
