An accomplished singer, pianist, and cellist, Lydia Ainsworth was named an Emerging Artist
by the Canada Council for the Arts, who awarded her a full professional artist grant in 2008. Other distinctions include the NYU Steinhardt Graduate Education Scholarship for North American Scholars (2008- 2010 academic years) and the Etobicoke School of the Arts award in composition (2003).
Lydia has composed, orchestrated, and conducted a multitude of film scores featuring both small ensembles as well as 40+ piece orchestras. Beyond the realm of film, she has also written music for the concert hall, art installations, contemporary dance performances, pieces for live electronics, as well as jingles (recently for Nikon and Winners). Last Spring Lydia participated in Alex Steyermark’s 2009 ASCAP/Columbia Film Scoring Workshop, a highly competitive program pairing four ASCAP composers with four Columbia University graduate thesis filmmakers. She scored the film Agua Bendita, directed by Tatiana Lamela-Rabell, and recorded with a chamber ensemble at Legacy Studios in NYC. The film has premiered in NYC and LA, and at film festivals including Palm Springs Shortfest and San Francisco LGBT Film Festival. Lydia is a student of Ira Newborn at NYU Steinhardt.
