String Faculty: Anne Lanzilotti

A fierce advocate of contemporary music, violist Anne Lanzilotti has distinguished herself premiering works by and collaborating with composers of her generation. Dr. Lanzilotti is on the faculty at NYU Steinhardt, where she has developed an Extended Techniques for Strings course that is a survey of the broad range of techniques demanded of performers in twenty-first century music (both acoustic and electronic). It in corporates her online resource Shaken Not Stuttered that demonstrates extended techniques for strings used in Andrew Norman’s orchestral and chamber works. In the summer, Dr. Lanzilotti is the viola professor at Casalmaggiore International Music Festival. A native of Hawai‘i, she is a co-founder and Artistic Consultant for Kalikolehua — El Sistema Hawai‘i, a free orchestra program for underserved youth.
