String Faculty: Martin Beaver

Violinist, Martin Beaver, is one of North America's most active artists. He has been praised by critics and audiences alike for his thrilling performances in chamber music, recital and concerto appearances. In May 2002, he was appointed First Violin of the world-renowned Tokyo String Quartet. As such, he has maintained a busy performance schedule in the major musical centers of North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

As a soloist, Mr. Beaver has appeared with orchestras around the world, including the San Francisco Symphony, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Toronto Symphony, the Montreal Symphony and the Portuguese Radio Orchestra under the batons of Pinchas Zukerman, Kazuyoshi Akiyama, Raymond Leppard, and Charles Dutoit. He has given recitals in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Tokyo, Brussels and London.

Professor Beaver is a regular guest at chamber festivals such as the Seattle Chamber Music Festival, Music in Blair Atholl (Scotland), Het Reizend Muziekgezelschap (Holland) and the Miyazaki International Music Festival (Japan).

Professor Beaver won a Silver Medal at the 1993 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, and was awarded a top prize at the 1991 Montreal International Music Competition. He has recorded for the René Gailly, Naim Audio, NAXOS, SM5000 and Musica Viva labels.

A dedicated teacher, Professor Beaver has served on the faculties of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, the
University of British Columbia, Peabody Conservatory of Music and Yale Graduate School of Music. He continues to be in
great demand giving masterclasses in North America, Europe and Asia.
