Visiting Scholars 2011-2012: Gan (Margaret) Fangmeng and Qing Dou

Visiting Scholar Gan (Margaret) Fangmeng is a musicologist, theorist and pianist from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Both her doctoral dissertation and master's thesis focus on post-tonal theory and the atonal repertoire. She has also translated and presented papers on the theoretical writings of major American scholars including Allan Forte, Robert Morgan, and David Lewin. Ms. Fangmeng studied both piano performance and musicology at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where she currently is completing doctoral studies and teaching courses in academic writing and the history of Western music.

 

 

Visiting Scholar Qing Dou is a musicologist and performer, as well as Dean and Professor of Piano at Weifang University. Qing Dou was the recipient of "Renowned Teacher's Award" in September 2011 in the Shandong Provice; it was the first time in history that this prestigious award was given to a member at The Conservatory of Music at Weifang University. Qing Dou has published twenty-one articles in different magazines, including People’s MusicMusicology in China and the Art of Music  and has written three books. Her interests involve pedagogy and the evolution of the etude repertoire.
