For young professionals and high school and college percussionistsBroadway preparation sessions on: drumset, percussion mallets, timpani and synthesizer presented by the original musicians who "created the book."
THIS IS A FIVE DAY INTENSIVE STUDY OF THE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOW HOW INTO THE WORLD OF BROADWAY. Eight Broadway shows will be presented in-depth by the percussionist who developed the original book. A panel discussion will include percussionists throughout the industry. A select panel will include conductors and contractors who are actively pursuing musical careers on Broadway. There will be a SHOW DAY; highlighting the experience with each participant visiting and touring two show pits of an actual Broadway show. After the tour, participants will watch the show from the audience. Dinner will be served after the matinees with a discussion from the show's percussionist.
Participants will stay in the Hayden Hall dormitory, on Washington Square Park, ideally located at the heart of NYU's main classrooms and facilities. Bedrooms have a bed, desk, dresser and closet/armoire for each student. Rooms are air-conditioned, but they do not have telephone or Internet access. There is 24-hour security and trained Resident Assistants (RA) assigned to each floor. Participants will receive a package of bed linens with a small towel when they arrive. Participants who request a single will not have a roommate, while participants in doubles will be assigned to live with one or two other participants from the program.
A meal plan is not included. Participants will receive more information about housing after they have been accepted to the program.
The cost of the program is $700 for participants (includes two Broadway show tickets and seminar events). The housing fee is $270 for doubles and $390 for singles.
Participants: Applicants who are accepted as participants will receive a portion of a Broadway show that they will be expected to thoroughly prepare and perform during the program for the professional percussionist who plays in that Broadway show. (The NYU Broadway Seminar reserves the right to excuse or replace any participant who is unable to meet the performance standards necessary to be a hands-on participant.)

*CD with a recording of each type of music for which you’d like to be considered (either percussion, drumset or Latin). CDs should be marked with full name, school where enrolled presently, contact number and address and the area of interest represented on the recording. These types are as follows:
Broadway Percussion:
a) Xylophone: Porgy and Bess G. Gershwin (Goldenberg Book version)
b) Timpani: Timpiana: Saul Goodman, Goodman Timpani book.
c) Multiple percussion: Igor Stravinsky; History of the Soldier …thee last page (solo), to the end. (In the back of the Goldenberg School for Snare Drum.) Alternate versions are also acceptable.
Broadway Drum set: Play 16 bars of 5 contrasting styles.

Audition Information
NOTE: You may attend the seminar, without being a hands-on participant. Audition requirements for CD audition and hands-on participant. Upon receipt of your application and CD recording, you will be considered, for hands-on participation. Record a CD for those areas in which you would like to be considered. You may submit a CD in all, some, or one area of interest. (Percussion, Drumset, Latin)
If you are chosen to perform, you will be sent a portion of a Broadway show, with a recording and music. You will be expected to thoroughly prepare these materials. If you are chosen, you will perform that portion of the specified show in the session for the percussionist who plays the Broadway show. (The NYU Broadway Seminar reserves the right to excuse or replace any participant who is unable to meet the performance standards necessary to be a hands-on participant.)
