Percussion Faculty: Simon Boyar

Simon Boyar wishes to transform the status of the marimba. With his passionate pioneering spirit and great talent, Mr. Boyar is exciting audiences and bringing the marimba into the forefront of popular culture.

In fall 2005, Mr. Boyar was the featured guest artist with the Korean Symphony Orchestra in Seoul, Korea performing Andrew Thomas' "Loving Mad Tom Marimba Concerto" under the baton of the composer. In February 2006, he traveled to Katowice, Poland to craft the first ever recording of this groundbreaking concerto with The Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra of Katowice.

An accomplished soloist, Mr. Boyar has appeared as a marimba soloist with The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and as a percussion soloist with The Juilliard Orchestra.   During the 2006-07 season he will be appearing with The American Symphony Orchestra and The Puerto Rico Symphony among others. He has also been a guest soloist with the Exit 9 Percussion Group and a member of the Gothamfive performance collective. 

Mr. Boyar is involved as a teacher outside of NYC and is frequently asked to give master classes around the country.  Among his many honors, Mr. Boyar participated in the first Zeltsman Marimba Festival. His teachers included David Fein, Greg Giannascoli, Greg Zuber, and the legendary Joe Morello.  Mr. Boyar is also a member of the REACH (Respect Education Through the Arts Challenge) performing ensemble, a comprehensive educational program involving over 250 schools. In addition to touring and teaching, Mr. Boyar has recorded for Naxos, API Records, Opus One, and EMW Records.
