Philip Taylor
Philip Taylor (Associate Professor) is the Director of the Program in Educational Theatre. Dr. Taylor established the International Institute in Drama in Education Research (IDIERI) which met for the first time in Australia (1995). Further institutes were organised in Canada (1997), the US (2000), and England (2003). He was inaugural director of the first centre in Australia dedicated to applied theatre research, Centre for Applied Theatre Research, Griffith University, 1997-2001. Dr. Taylor recently finished directing and being dramaturg for the brechtbeckett workshop, a new collaborative theatrical event based on the praxis of Samuel Beckett and Bertolt Brecht, as well as directing AHùSSESS, a dramatic commentary on school assessment which was presented at the IDIERI in Northampton and at a major NYU Forum on arts education assessment which he coordinated. Dr Taylor has given keynote addresses in Australia, Canada, England and the US, and is a frequent workshop presenter worldwide. He is establishing a new scholarly periodical focussed on applied arts as well finishing a new book Structure and Spontaneity.
