Juan Pablo Bello (b. 1976) received his Engineering degree in Electronics from the Universidad Simón Bolívar in his hometown of Caracas, Venezuela. After a brief stint in Industry (1998-1999), Juan enrolled as a PhD student at the University of London in the UK. His doctoral work was on the use of Digital Signal Processing for the automatic transcription of music, and its applications to Music Information Retrieval.

He earned his doctorate in 2003, later becoming post-doctoral researcher and, since 2005, Technical Manager of the Centre for Digital Music at Queen Mary, University of London. In 2006, Juan joined the Music Technology program at NYU, where he is an Assistant Professor.

Juan teaches and researches on the computer-based analysis of musical signals and its applications to music information retrieval, digital audio effects and interactive music systems. He is a member of the IEEE and a regular reviewer for digital signal processing and computer music journals and conferences.
