David Montgomery is a specialist in drama education, theatre for young audiences, student teaching and integrated arts. His research interests are in drama pedagogy, arts partnerships, and teacher education. As an actor and singer, David performed in numerous professional venues before working as a k-12 teaching artist for Project Arts, District 26 in Queens, New York— and the Educational Arts Team in Jersey City, New Jersey. David also taught full time at I.S. 292 in Brooklyn, New York. More recently, he worked as a teaching artist in a Brooklyn middle school as part of a grant, which was aimed at integrating drama into the core curriculum classrooms of English, Science, and Social Studies. This site is where David conducted research for his dissertation, Living an Arts Partnership: The Experience of Three Middle School Classroom Teachers in a Drama Residency. David directed two educational theatre productions, Stories from the Magic Lake in 2006 and Folktale Journey: Old Stories Told in New Ways in 2004, both devised theatre pieces for family audiences. As an actor-teacher, David was employed by The George Street Playhouse and The Shoestring Players, two theatre groups based in New Jersey that are dedicated to bringing quality theatre to young people. David coordinated The Teaching Artist Seminar in 2004 at NYU where he led a master class and presented a research paper, and he coordinated the New York State Theatre Educator's Association (NYSTEA) conference in October of 2006. David has presented papers and workshops at a variety of conferences including the American Alliance for Theatre Education (AATE) conference in 2005 and the Forum on Arts Assessment in 2003 at NYU.
