Jazz Choir

The Jazz Choir is an ensemble of 20 vocalists under the direction of Ira Shankman. Their repertoire represents a wide range of jazz and contemporary periods and styles.

Who Can Join

All choruses are open to the NYU community (students, faculty, and staff) and community at large, by audition

Audition Information
Auditions for the NYU Choruses will be held on: 
Friday, September 8, from 4pm–9pm in Pless Annex (82 Washington Square East), Room 222
Saturday, September 9, from 9am–5pm in Pless Annex (82 Washington Square East), Room 220

Auditions consist of a solo song, an improvisation to a 24-measure blues chorus, and sight-reading. Accompanist provided.

Rehearsal Information

Jazz Choir meets Mondays and Thursdays from 6:45 - 8:15pm.

Performances and Concerts

Jazz Choir presents at least two concerts each semester.
