Music Education Student Teaching

Undergraduate and pre-service graduate students work closely with an advisor to select the best possible settings for student-teaching experiences in the New York City area.

Placements

Placements range from comprehensive public high schools to schools specializing in the arts such as Frank Sinatra High School of the Arts, Talent Unlimited, Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music, and LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts to name a few. At the elementary and middle school levels, students practice their teaching at culturally diverse settings that include public community schools, music settlement houses, and independent schools.

Professors Nancy and Ira Shankman conduct the Student Teaching Seminar for undergraduate and graduate students.

Professor Ira Shankman is the Field Placement Officer for the Department. He and other supervising professors work closely with our placement schools in making sure the best opportunities are provided for each student.
