Visiting Professor of Music Education: Dr. Wayne Bowman

The NYU Steinhardt Music Education faculty is very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Wayne Bowman as Visiting Professor of Music Education, 2011-2012. Dr. Bowman is one of the most renowned scholars in contemporary music education. He has written many books, book chapters, journal articles, and book reviews, and he has presented numerous conference papers worldwide. His publications address many issues in the fields of music philosophy, educational philosophy, and music education, including: teaching and learning practices, popular music, ethics, gender, community music, social justice, and narrative inquiry.

In addition, Dr. Bowman is an exceptional jazz performer and arranger. From 2007 to 2011, Dr. Bowman was Editor of one of the most prestigious journals in the field, Action, Criticism, and Theory for Music Education. He has served as a Visiting Professor of Music Education at the University of Toronto and is currently Professor of Music at the University of Brandon, Canada. In the fall 2011 semester, he will teach “Readings in Music Education” and “Psychology of Music Education.” His spring courses will be announced later in the fall term. He will also be available for MA thesis and PhD consultations.
