The Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development was one of the first institutions in the United States to offer a doctorate in music education. Graduates have attained leadership roles in higher education as professors, researchers, and departmental and school administrators.
Doctoral students acquire a thorough grounding in significant historical and current issues as well as new, developing paradigms in music education. As they conceptualize their research ideas and interests, doctoral students are provided with methodologies through which they can develop proposals and complete dissertations that have been renowned for their excellence and pioneering approaches.
The Ph.D. concentrates on research and theoretical development; the Ed.D. focuses on action research and the implementation of existing theories. The School of Education provides access to leaders in educational theory and applied research and offers promising scholars a broad array of forums, seminars, and workshops as well as research facilities and technologies.
