Educational Theatre Faculty: Amy Cordileone

Amy Cordileone is in the 3rd year of her doctoral studies in Educational Theatre at New York University, where she also teaches, supervises teachers, and assists the Program Director. She will conduct her field research while in Uganda this summer, and hopes to write her dissertation in time to become a PhD in May 2010. She received her BA from the University of California at Irvine and her MA from NYU. Amy also works for the non-governmental organization Invisible Children, Inc. (IC), based in northern Uganda and California. Amy started the Teacher Exchange Program for IC, in conjunction with a study abroad opportunity for the Program in Educational Theatre. The Teacher Exchange aims to engender cross-cultural collaboration between international and Ugandan educators, all of whom volunteer their time and energy to the organization. Participants in this program partner in a team-teaching experience to explore educational possibilities in Ugandan classrooms and their individual contexts. Throughout her tenure at NYU, Amy has been actively involved in the Shakespeare Initiative through the Program in Educational Theatre. She is currently directing the Shakespeare Youth Ensemble's production of Two Noble Kinsmen. Additionally, Amy has enjoyed collaborating with the program faculty while designing the costumes for three Educational Theatre productions: The Giver, Kindertransport, and Gross Indecency.
