Courtney J. Boddie, Associate Director of Education at The New Victory Theater

Ms. Boddie received a Masters of Arts in Educational Theatre from NYU Steinhardt (2003) in the EDTC program. She was a Program Associate at Empire State Partnerships and a Teaching Artist for Roundabout Theatre Company.

At the New Vic, she is mainly responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Education Department, supervising 40+ Teaching Artists and implementing professional development models for teachers and New Vic Teaching Artists. Ms. Boddie joined this theater for kids, families and teachers in 2003, where she implemented a new pre/post-performance in-classroom workshop program that has grown from working in 19 schools to over 100 schools in the metropolitan area. Initiatives include: A unique collaborative curriculum planning model for pre/post-performance lesson plans, various residency models, teacher professional development intensives offered for NYC Department of Education professional credit, peer to peer workshop observation program, an online teaching artist resource/community, the establishment of the New Vic Teaching Artist Enrichment Team: Small group of New Vic Teaching Artists that focuses on quality in our work. This includes teaching artist mentoring, classroom workshop program analysis and peer-led TA team meetings, etc.

She is a member of the NYC Arts-in-Education Roundtable TA Affairs Committee (Co-Chair) and Face-to-Face Conference Committee.  She has presented at many local and national arts in education conferences. She has also served as partner with the New York City Department of Education Office of Arts on Special Programs to design arts education professional development for NYC Public School Teachers.
