Jason D. Butler is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) and a Registered Drama Therapist (RDT). Currently he works as the Program Director of Goddard Riverside Community Center’s The Other Place, a psychosocial club for individuals with a history of homelessness and mental illness. Jason also has a drama therapy private practice in Manhattan. Previously he consulted with the New York Foundling in working with teens in the foster care system.
Since 2002, Jason has been in training at the Institutes for the Arts in Psychotherapy in the Developmental Transformations form of drama therapy. Within drama therapy, he also specializes in therapeutic theatre and self-revelatory performance. He has led many workshops and presentations across the country about drama therapy.
Jason has been an adjunct instructor in the Graduate Program in Drama Therapy at NYU since 2005. He has served on the Board of Directors for the National Association for Drama Therapy as Communications Chair since 2005. He was a founding board member of the Tri-State Chapter of the NADT. Prior to becoming a drama therapist, Jason taught high school theatre for five years.
Jason is currently on a leave of absence to teach Drama Therapy at Concordia University in Montreal.
