SPECIAL SUMMER OFFERINGS: Programs and Classes
In the summer of 2009, we offer special sequences for dance educators with related practical applications. The rich dance resources of New York City are incorporated into many facets of our summer dance offerings.
2010 Programs:
SUMMER BALLET INTENSIVE June 28 through July 16 Mon-Friday 3:00-5:00pm. Contact Frederick Curry or 212 998 5534
The overall objective of the Summer Ballet Intensive is to improve students’ skill in, and understanding of, ballet as an experiential performing art. Class will begin with exercises on the floor to develop core strength, stamina, flexibility and correct alignment. These concepts will then be taken into standing exercises at the ballet barre, where the basic movement vocabulary of ballet will be introduced. This basic vocabulary is then taken into center floor practice, where students will learn to link steps with precision, appropriate energy, and flow in adagio (slow, sustained), petite allegro (small, quick) and grand allegro (large, traveling) sequences. Summer Ballet Intensive E89.1076/E89.2077
NYU SUMMER DANCE INTENSIVE. June 28 - July 16 Mon-Thurs 6:00-8:30pm. Contact Deborah Damast. Summer Dance Intensive E89.1288/E89.2288
This course will consist of a modern technique class, improvisation, composition and choreography, and repertory. In the technique class, students will explore concepts such as breath support, flow, articulation and musicality, and will increase their ability to move with passion and full body fulfillment. Pedagogic principles and methods will be embedded in the class. The first hour and a half will be devoted to technique class, and the following 45 minutes will be composed of improvisations, choreographic assignments, and learning an excerpt from Damast repertory. Final 15 minutes for reflection and writing. Intermediate to Advanced students may apply.
