Teaching Dance in Higher Ed: ABT

Teaching Dance in Higher Education and the Professions: ABT Ballet Pedagogy
This newly designed concentration is for students intending to teach in private studios, conservatories, as teaching-artists and community outreach (36 credits). The dance teaching aspect of this curriculum is taught by American Ballet Theatre master teachers who emphasize the development of the ballet dancer. Pedagogy and research are complemented with several arts management courses, preparing the graduate for employment in the private sector. The culminating project of this track is the preparation of a business plan for a private studio. The applicant for this track is an accomplished ballet dancer who wants to develop pedagogical content in this art form. In addition to the MA degree in teaching dance in higher education and the professions, the graduate receives an ABT Ballet Pedagogy certificate.
