
| Deborah Damast Choreographer, Dancer, Dance Educator

Deborah Damast, MA, began her dance training in Connecticut with the Ballet Etudes Repertory Company. She has been performing, teaching, and choreographing in NYC for over 15 years. Currently she is the Program Coordinator of the Dance Education Program at NYU where she is also a professor and Artistic Director of Kaleidoscope Dancers. She recently co-created a creative movement video for children entitled Movengroovekids (movengroovekids.com).
She has danced with a number of companies including Peridance Ensemble, Dance Collective, Isadora’s Dance Legacy, Nayo and Friends, Susan Tenney, and directs her own company, Deborah Damast and Dancers. She has choreographed and danced for the International Festival of Dance in Bologna Italy and the Aizu Wakamatsu Theatre in Japan. Her work has been shown at over 20 venues in NYC including Dancers Responding to Aids, The World Financial Center, Riverside Church, Washington Square Church, Context, University Settlement, Nikolais Louis Choreospace, and at SUNY Purchase and Queens College. Deborah has enjoyed numerous collaborations with visual artists including Terry Noel, showcased at Westbeth and the Bank.
She has taught extensively to adults and children, and has been on the faculty of New York City Ballet, Temple Habonim Nursery School, The JCC Manhattan, Peridance, Little Red Schoolhouse, The Dance in Education Fund, and the 92nd St. Y. Deborah is a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an international honor society of educators, and is a member of the National Dance Association. Deborah has taught teacher training seminars for the National Association for the education of Young Children. She has been the director of the Dance Department at the Harvey School’s Cavalier Summer Arts Camp in Katonah, NY since 1998 and has conducted workshops for outreach programs with at-risk youth throughout the area. Each summer since 1995, Deborah has choreographed for the Oregon Ballet Theatre’s Project F.I.N.D.as a guest choreographer and teacher. She has coordinated children’s dance programs at Peridance and at the Dance in Education Fund.
Deborah holds an MA in Dance and Dance Education from NYU, a BFA in dance from SUNY Purchase, and has received a certificate from the Dance Education Laboratory at the 92nd St. Y.
