Dance Education Faculty: Patricia Cohen

Patricia G. Cohen




Patricia G. Cohen, B.A., M.A., earned a Masters degree in Dance Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, where she has taught modern and jazz dance. Ms. Cohen also holds a Masters degree in Speech Pathology from Stanford University. She is an adjunct faculty member in the Fine and Performing Arts Department at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York.

In the past few years, Ms. Cohen has focused her energies on the development of dialogue among dance educators across the sectors. She is a contributing writer and co-editor of a special topics issue of the Journal of Dance Education devoted to dance in the private sector. She edits the Private Studio Feature Presentations column for that peer review journal. As Secretary of UNITY, an organization comprised of cross-sector member organizations, Ms. Cohen works closely with the Certification Think Tank Committee and the Partnership Committee.

Ms. Cohen is co-editor and a contributing writer for Dance Connections, Volume One, a dance education reader and activity book, in press, that was conceived to introduce dance to middle and high school students. She has presented dance education sessions at state, regional and national conferences, including the National Dance Education Organization, the National Dance Association/AAHPERD, and the Dancing in the Millennium Conference in Washington, D.C.

Her leadership roles include her current position on the board of directors of the National Dance Education Organization as Vice-President for Governance and Membership.
