Music Composition and Film Scoring Concentration Auditions

Audition Dates and Portfolio/Audition Requirements for Undergraduates

This page is for undergraduates only.

Applicants to our master's and doctoral programs are not required to audition, but must submit a composition portfolio of original works as a part of the application process. For more details and instructions on submitting this portfolio, see the Application Guides for the master's program and the doctoral program.

The requirements are different for the Concentration in Contemporary Production and Songwriting.

Undergraduate Auditions

First, apply for undergraduate study.

Undergraduate Audition Dates are shown in the table below.

Please note that transfer students are only accepted for the Fall semester.

Audition is required for undergraduate applicants. You will perform two pieces in contrasting styles on an instrument of your choice. One of these pieces may be a composition of your own, but at least one (and, if you prefer, both) of them must be a work by a composer other than yourself. Please note that accompanists are not required nor provided. Live auditions will include a short interview about your history as a composer and may include testing of music theory fundamentals. Students interested in the Film Scoring concentration can bring examples of their work with visual media. If you cannot make the audition please upload a video of your live performances.

Portfolio must be submitted online via GetAcceptd before the audition. If you cannot make the audition, please upload your performance video.
