Music Business Innovation Lab: Transmedia Collaborations for Executives - The Music Business Program in partnership with Brazil's Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) International Affairs Division, offers a one-week, professional-level training lab in cross-cultural and transmedia innovation for music and media industry executives. The intensive program analyzes emerging business models and international markets for music and media--positioned at the intersection of several overlapping areas of industry. We examine existing and emergent strategies for designing hybrid business models to manage the dispersal of content across multiple platforms, including interactive websites, smartphone and tablet apps, social video games, music and video streaming services, live performances, and others on the horizon, such as virtual and augmented reality.
Music Business Martriculated Majors
Internship in Music Business - Course may not be taken by Special and Visiting students. Access code required from a Music Business Advisor. MPAMB-UE1320 • Staff. 50 hours per point: 1-6 points. Assignment to record companies, music venues, management agencies, or other music industry-related firms for on-the-job training. Written report required. Open to non-majors who are matriculated at NYU provided (1) Pre-requisite MPAMB-UE0100 is completed prior to commencement of Internship, (2) student has junior standing, and (3) a minimum 2.8 GPA.
Internship in the Music Industry - Course registration only open to graduate Music Business majors. Access code required from a Music Business Advisor. MPAMB-GE2301 • 1-3 points. Assignment to record companies, music venues, management agencies, or other music industry-related firms for advanced on-the-job training. Written report required. Restricted to majors in the Graduate Music Business Program.
Colloquy in Music Business - Course registration only open to graduate music business majors. Access code required from a Music Business Advisor. MPAMB-GE2401 • 3 points. Individualized consultation guides the student through the final phase of the required master’s project. Only open to graduate music business majors.

What Makes A Star? - What is A&R? Artist Branding? The 360 deal? Music Supervision? How do you create, market and distribute music in the current music industry environment? These are just a few of the questions that will be answered in this week long summer institute. By participating in class sessions, going on field trips, attending concerts and interacting with music industry professionals you will be given an overview of the current music industry, challenge your ideas and create innovative ways to discover, create or develop future “stars” in the music industry.
