Larry Miller is Managing Director of Miller & Company, a media consultancy based in New York. Miller & Company works with music, media and technology companies and their financial sponsors on capital formation and growth strategy, digital product/service development, acquisitions and restructurings. Previously, Larry was Vice President/Partner of L.E.K. Consulting and a senior member of the firm’s media and entertainment practice, with a focus on Mergers &Acquisitions and business strategy in recorded music and music publishing, broadcasting and web services.
Prior to his return to consulting, Larry was founder and CEO of Or Music, a Grammy Award winning independent recorded music label and music publisher where he signed, recorded and published multi-platinum artists Los Lonely Boys and Matisyahu, and also worked with John Cale, Tower of Power, Alejandro Escovedo and Phil Roy. Or Music was acquired by Sony Music and EMI Music Publishing in 2006 after proving a unique joint venture business model between the independently funded company and Sony. Previously he was President of Reciprocal Entertainment, a leading provider of ecommerce infrastructure services acquired by Microsoft in 2001.
Prior to 2001, Larry was Vice President of Market Development of AT&T Labs Research where he was cofounder and COO of AT&T a2b music. He was Managing Partner of AT&T Solutions Consulting in New York and managed consulting engagements at EDS Management Consulting and A.T. Kearney. Miller began his career in broadcasting, where he held general management positions at Tribune Broadcasting where he managed WQCD-FM/CD101.9, and at NBC Radio Entertainment. Larry was the first production manager of WHTZ/Z100 New York, regarded as the most successful startup in U.S. radio history as the station went from “worst to first” within 72 days of signing-on in the country’s most competitive radio market.
A highly-regarded digital entertainment industry expert, Larry has commented on CNBC, CNN, Fox News, and ABC-TV Good Morning America; in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Financial Times, Los Angeles Times, Billboard, Variety and the Hollywood Reporter. He has moderated and participated on numerous international industry panels including the Billboard Music and Money Symposium and Midem.
Larry earned an MBA at Columbia Business School in New York, and a BA at Brandeis University. He is currently serving as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Music Business program at NYU-Steinhardt, and has served as a mentor in the Eugene M. Lang Center for Entrepreneurship at Columbia Business School. Larry has lectured at Music Startup Academy at General Assembly, Brandeis University International Business School and UCLA.
