Brass studies at NYU draw performance students from around the world to study with an internationally renowned faculty in an acclaimed academic university within the art and culture capital of the world, New York City. Historically housed in the Steinhardt School, The Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions has been NYU's school of music for generations.

Kate Amrine
Kate Amrine is a sophomore at NYU
Steinhardt pursuing a B.M. in Trumpet Performance. She has studied with Thomas
Hoyt, Jeremy Pelt, Laurie Frink, Chris Gekker, Billy Harper, Paul Carr, Jeff
Jarvis, Jamey Aebersold, Terrell Stafford, and Chris Sala. Kate has played with
Randy Brecker, Leon “Kid Chocolate” Brown, the Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra,
Doreen Ketchens, Cecil McBee, Rufus Reid, Kenny Rittenhouse, Brad Linde, Alex
Norris, Walt Weiskopf, and Thee Phantom. Kate is a member of several ensembles
within NYU including Symphony Orchestra, Brass Choir, and various chamber groups.
In the NYC area, she participates in various ensembles including Billy Harper’s
Voices. Kate is also involved in the pit orchestras for musical theatre productions
including Sweet Smell of Success (2011), Sweeney Todd (2010), and Die
Fledermaus (2010). She has performed at various NYC venues including Carnegie
Hall, Frederick Loewe Theatre, Skirball Center for Performing Arts, Bowery Poetry Club, Tutuma Social Club, Zinc Bar, and
Spike Hill. In addition, Kate works as Personal Assistant to Jeremy Pelt and
was recently Tour Manager for the Jeremy Pelt Quintet’s tour throughout France,
Germany, Austria, and Turkey. -
Spencer C Hale
Spencer C Hale is a junior in NYU Steinhardt pursuing a B.M. in classical trombone performance and an M.M. in music education. He presently studies with Tom Hutchinson (New York City Opera, Principal), and has studied in the past with Brian Mahany, Sean Reed, and John Fieta.
Spencer plays principal and bass trombone in the NYU Symphony Orchestra, the NYU Repertory Orchestra, the NYU Brass Choir and NYU brass quintets, and has been featured as a soloist with the NYU Brass Ensemble and the Duxbury High School Wind Ensemble. He has been involved in several music festivals within New York City including the 2009 Art in Odd Places Festival and the 2009 Make Music New York Festival.
As a pop/rock trombonist Spencer can be found regularly playing gigs in the city with ska/punk band Hey Stranger, sharing the stage with acts like Murphy’s Law, The Toasters, the New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble, and Nix 86, as well as making guest appearances with other acts both in and around the city.

Jon Holloway
Originally from Carson City, Nevada, Jon Holloway is a 2005 graduate of Carson High School and a 2010 graduate of The University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelors of Music Degree in Music Education. He currently resides in New York, NY and is attending NYU Steinhardt in pursuit of a Masters in Brass Studies, Horn performance. At NYU, Jon studies with Joseph Anderer and participates in the NYU Symphony and Repertory Orchestras, Woodwind Quintet, Brass Quintet, Brass Choir, music theatre productions, and other various chamber music groups. He has performed as part of the National High School Wind Ensemble, The Carson City Symphony, The Nevada Chamber Opera, The Las Vegas Philharmonic, and was a charter member of the Ladies Nite Brass from Reno, NV. He has a love for musical theatre performance on both horn and bass and has performed in regional productions of “Into The Woods”, “Evita”, “Fame”, “Die Fledermaus”, “Joseph….”, “Guys and Dolls”, “42nd Street”, and “RENT”, among others. While at UNR he studied with John Lenz and Peter Adlish and participated in the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Scholarship Brass Quintet, Chamber Chorale and several Jazz Combos.
Jon was a marching member of The Sacramento Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps from 2006-2008 where he served as a soloist, section leader and horn sergeant. He was the 2008 DCI Mellophone I&E world champion. Jon leads an active teaching career as a marching and music instructor. He has held brass caption head jobs at Carson High School, in Carson City, NV, Damonte Ranch High School and McQueen High School in Reno, NV where he also assisted with the visual program, and was on the color guard staff, He also has worked closely with the performing arts department at Green Valley High School in Henderson, NV. This year, Jon will be starting his third year on staff with the Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps as the assistant brass caption head. He served as a mellophone tech in 2009, and in 2010 he was the mellophone tech and assistant brass caption head. Jon is a proud member of The International Horn Society and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America.
