Brass Faculty: Mark Gould

Mark Gould is one of the best known trumpeters of his generation. He was principal trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra from 1974-2003 and has been very active as a trumpet soloist and conductor. He conducted and performed as soloist with the Seattle Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Colorado Philharmonic, Buffalo Symphony, The Juilliard Wind Ensemble and the Vermont Mozart Festival Orchestra. He is the director of the New York Trumpet Ensemble. In 2001, he was the conductor of "Shadowcatcher", on NEW WORLD RECORDS, which features the works of Eric Ewazen and William Schuman.

Professor Gould has performed as a soloist on many recordings. His most recent is Café 1930, an album of trumpet and guitar music on ANGEL/EMI. As principal trumpet of the acclaimed Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (considered by many to be among the finest in the world), he participated in over 40 "Live from Lincoln Center" performances on PBS and numerous audio recordings of operas and symphonic works under the direction of James Levine, among which were the grammy winning recordings of THE RING OF THE NIBELUNG and PARSIFAL for DEUTSHCE GRAMMOPHON.

Professor Gould's former students play in many of the major orchestras of the world, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony.
