The World Percussion Ensemble will explore the art of playing the Frame Drum by focusing on the musical traditions of the Middle East and South India. In addition, the students will also learn the vocalization techniques, or bols, used in South Indian Karnatic music to facilitate the learning process. Through out the semester the class will explore many Korvai (south Indian composition) and also work on improvising and soloing on the Frame drum. Along with the frame drum, the class will focus on performance techniques of the Kanjira, Riq and Darbuka. This class meets once a week on Fridays, from 11am-12:15pm. Participation is determined by the instructor.
