Please note: accompanists not required nor provided. Auditions will be followed by a 3 pm reception for parents and students.

**Note: All fall semester Masters and Advanced Certificate applicants who wish to be considered for talent-based scholarship awards must (1) submit their application materials by January 6 (2) complete their audition by the last weekend of February. U.S. students should also file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 1 to be considered for student loans and other school-based scholarships.

Percussion: undergraduate* and masters** auditions***

Additional auditions after March 1, 2010 by appointment with Professor Jonathan Haas for undergraduate transfer and masters applicants only. To schedule a Percussion audition, contact Prof. Jonathan Haas at jonahaas@aol.com or 917 887 5661. (Percussionists who are prospective Music Education majors, should audition for the Music Education program).

*The last audition date for undergraduate freshman applicants is March 1.

**Masters students who audition by March 1 are considered for a combination of Steinhardt School and Department scholarships. However, masters students who audition after March 1 are only considered for Department scholarships. Steinhardt School scholarships are distributed immediately after the March 1 auditions.

Masters students applying for Collaborative Piano (Instrumental or Vocal) should not use the online audition form but contact Marilyn Nonken at her above email to schedule a live audition.

*The last audition date for undergraduate freshman applicants is February 27.

**Masters students who audition by February 27 are considered for a combination of Steinhardt School and Department scholarships. However, masters students who audition after that date are only considered for Department scholarships. Steinhardt School scholarships are distributed immediately after the February auditions.

Jazz Studies (Performance and Composition)

All undergraduate applicants - freshmen and transfers – must send a pre-screening video recording. Subsequent to this pre-screening of your video performance, in-person audition and interview invitations will be issued. See Audition page for Jazz Studies for detailed instructions. Early decision student can do either the live audition on Nov 7th Open House OR submit a DVD by Nov 1.  Either are considered a pre-screening audition.

Graduate (masters) applicants must send an audition video recording with the required repertoire. There are no live, on-campus graduate auditions.

Music Business

Undergraduate Music Business audition information is found here: Auditions page
There is no audition or audition materials required for the graduate program.

Music Technology Applicants to the undergraduate program in Music Technology are required to go through a two-part audition process: the submission of an audition package, and a phone interview. (There is no audition for the graduate program).

Vocal Performance (Music Theatre and Classical Voice)

All undergraduate applicants - first-year students and transfers - must send a recording before an in-person audition invitation will be issued. Undergraduates: Bring a 300-500 word essay to the audition. The essay needs to address the following: Consider a significant issue in education and reflect on its importance to you as a teacher/learner. As you consider an issue, develop an argument that addresses some of the following aspects of education:
-curriculum development
-teaching practices
-assessment
-race/class/gender
-the role of education/music education in society

Educational Theatre In addition to the November 7 Open House audition date, the following dates will apply for Ed. Theatre. Dates below are for undergraduates only. All Ed Theatre auditions begin as a group audition at 1 pm. (Auditions are not required for the graduate program).

Students must present a monologue of about 2 minutes in length. Please choose a piece that you feel best represents your acting skills and that you feel comfortable with. A group audition will follow entailing improvisation and drama work. There will then be a group discussion/interview about the Program in Educational Theatre and your interest in applying.

Dance Education 

Auditions are required for entrance to the MA degree program in Dance Education.

ABT track Masters program audition, Sunday, February 21, 2010, 10 am-2pm. Location ABT Studios, 890 Broadway (at 19th Street), New York, NY.  For more information or to reserve a place at the audition, call Frederick Curry, 212 998 5400.  Those unable to attend, please send a DVD to Frederick Curry, Dance Education Program, 35 West Fourth Street, NYU, New York, NY 10013. The DVD (ten minutes maximum) should include the following:

 "Work at the barre and in the center consisting of an adagio, petit allegro and grand allegro, as well as a port de bras exercise and pirouette combination with both en dehors and en dedans turns.  Only one side of each exercise needs to be demonstrated."

Teaching K-12 + Teacher Certification and Teaching Dance in Higher Education and the Professions track Masters program audition, Saturday, February, 27,  2010, 10 am-3pm. Location, 35 West Fourth Street, Studio 305, NYU, New York, NY.  For more information or to reserve a place at the audition, call Frederick Curry, 212 998 5400.
