NYU Steinhardt's Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions is collaborating with the NYU Tisch School of the Arts to offer a dual-degree program that allows you to earn a BFA in Drama and an MA in Performing Arts Administration in only five years of study.
This unique program combines the benefits of comprehensive conservatory training at the undergraduate level with a professional education at the graduate level. You'll take courses that develop your awareness of the changing dynamics of the arts administration field and build skill sets that are in demand, preparing for a leadership role in national and international performing arts organizations. Graduates may also go on to pursue careers in the arts, business, and law.
What you'll learn
Faculty and program leaders have worked together to design an undergraduate curriculum that balances theory with practice and skills with knowledge, giving you the theatre content and knowledge base you need as a performing arts administrator.
The BFA incorporates New York City's incomparable theatrical resources into your coursework in acting, directing, musical performance, production, design, and stage management. Your undergraduate studies will be enriched by general education courses in the humanities and sciences, drawing from the intellectual assets of NYU.
The graduate curriculum incorporates coursework in arts management and related disciplines with internships at leading New York City organizations. You will learn how to imagine creative solutions to emergent problems, think critically, communicate effectively, and manage both human and material resources. You’ll also hone your business skills through classes at the NYU Stern School of Business or the NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.

How you'll learn
For the BFA, you will take 128 points, or credits, of courses in professional training (in a primary studio category of your choice), theatre studies, and the liberal arts. During your senior year, you will take 18 points of graduate courses that count simultaneously toward your BFA and your MA, saving you time and money.
The MA program of study requires 30 points of industry-specific courses, management courses taken at NYU Stern and/or Wagner, internships, and a culminating experience.
