Internships in Performing Arts Administration

Graduate students in Performing Arts Administration are required to complete six credits of internships at arts organizations, beginning in their second semester of study. The requirement can be taken in the form of two 20-hour-per-week semester-long internships or one 35-to-40-hour-per-week semester-long internship. With their sponsors, students create an internship description outlining a project they will coordinate. A final report of 12 to 15 pages is required. Faculty advisers meet with internship sponsors and evaluate the student’s experience.

Recent site placements include internships at the American Ballet Theatre, the Manhattan Theatre Club, the Metropolitan Opera Association, the New York Philharmonic in the education department, the Brooklyn Academy of Music in institutional fundraising, the New York Foundation for the Arts in finance and in programming, the Paul Taylor Company in marketing, and the Atlantic Theater Company in marketing. Contact Program Director Richard Maloney at 212 998 5505 or for more information.
