Alumni Bio John Clinton

John Clinton (B.M., Music Business, 2005)

John is from the small north-eastern New Jersey town of New Providence. While John was attracted to NYU particularly for its MusicBusiness program, he was initially enrolled in Gallatin before internally transferring to Steinhardt.

During his junior and senior semesters, John interned with: Radio CityEntertainment - the in-house production company at Madison SquareGarden, AEG Live - the 2nd largest concert promoter in the world last year, and most recently at MTV Networks in Off-Channel Production Management, a department whose most notable annual event is planning and running the MTV Video Music Awards. In 2004, John was a panelist at theBillboard magazine’s inaugural Backstage Pass Touring Conference.

At NYU, John ran technical production for NYU's Music for Tomorrow festival and charity event in April 2005, a 4-day event that took place in a variety of club venues around NYC and featured artists such as: Ben Jelen, Alana Davis, & the Alchemist.

Outside of NYU, John continues to play piano in local piano-rock band Zanzibar Scuf (www.zanzibarscuf.com), who recently opened for Guster, Chevelle, and Guster at the University of Maryland's Art Attack
festival. He also holds down a part time job as On-Site Technical Manager for Starlight Orchestras.

John notes: "My favorite aspect of the Music Business program has been the sense of community found among students in the program. It is always nice to know that probably at least one other MusB kid will be in your class with you, and you will be able to get through it together. Being located right in NYC is also a huge plus in that it gives students incredible accessibility to the industry."
