Upward Bound

Who We Are

Nation's First: Founded in 1983, the Upward Bound program was the nation's first such program targeted specifically for students with disabilities. Its objectives are to provide students with the access to educational opportunities and to increase their number in postsecondary education while simultaneously developing the skills needed to be independent, contributing individuals. The program is funded by the United States Department of Education and conducted under the auspices of New York University's Metropolitan Center for Urban Education.

Upward Bound is represented in Washington by The National Council of Educational Opportunity Associations (NCEOA). This council represents Americans who must overcome class, social and cultural barriers to succeed in college.
