Technical Assistance Center on Disproportionality

Services - Training Modules

The Metro Center developed a series of Data Analysis Modules that is a data-driven investigation to identify the problems causing disproportionality. It provides a systematic approach for arriving at root causes of disproportionality. The module series is comprised of five six-hour training workshops that support school districts or district membership team on how to:

  • interpret referral and disproportionality data
  • analyze the impact of community demographics and student achievement
  • examine school practices, policies and beliefs
  • weigh current research, and
  • arrive at root cause
District membership teams remain intact throughout the process and consist of district leadership, general and special education teachers, review team representation, content supervisors, union and board representation, and parents.

At the end of this data-driven process, school districts will be able to identify policies, practices, and beliefs implicated in their disproportionality patterns and, more importantly, develop systemwide buy-in and perspective of this equity issue. After root cause, service plans outlining appropriate technical assistance and professional development are established. This entire process is developed over a three year plan:
