For several years through the 3 R's: Resources, Research and Reflection the Metropolitan Center for Urban Education has implemented a New York City Department of Education vendor contact to promote professional development in Literacy and mathematics instruction for teachers Kindergarten through high school through a coaching contract.
Metro Center coaches focus their professional development on advancing teachers' content knowledge in literacy and mathematics, their ability to use the New York City Department of Education citywide curricula to plan and deliver instruction that is based on assessment of student's learning needs; their ability to use best practices to promote student learning; and their ability to examine student work to assess student's understanding of content and concepts of literacy and mathematics to inform instructional planning and implementation; and their ability to use technology as a teaching tool.
Our coaches utilize a Best Practices model as the research-based methodological foundation of their services. The approach is designed to train teachers to successfully implement the New York City Department of Education's research-based curricula, their supplements, and to provide supportive strategies for teachers to address the literacy and mathematics learning of all students.
