Liberty Partnerships Program(LPP)

The Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) identifies students considered to be at risk of dropping out of school, and provides them with services designed to improve their ability to complete high school and advance into post-secondary education and the workforce.

The LPP maximizes the resources of communities in need, by providing enhanced learning opportunities for at-risk high school students.

The Partnership offers a powerful union of resources for students by combining advice and referrals from teachers and guidance counselors with support from metro center tutors and essential health, welfare, and community agencies. Tutors work under the direction of highly skilled practitioners to provide academic assistance, college awareness, SAT/RCT preparation, and exposure to important cultural and academic planning activities.

New York University graduate students work at least three days weekly at selected sites to provide academic subject tutoring. Tutors attend weekly New York University seminars, which support their work in the school.

The LPP does the following:
  • Provide one-to-one academic tutoring in preparation for SAT and PSAT exams.
  • Assist students with the completion of college application essays and financial aid forms.
  • Help schools create college awareness centers complete with current catalogs, brochures, and video materials.
  • Create celebrations and other special events that will help students to become familiar and comfortable on college campuses.
  • Provide students with additional enrichment opportunities and peer support through partnerships with the International Youth Leadership Institute.
The Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) was created

in 1988 as a legislative response to New York’s school dropout rate
