The NYC CRE Working Group is composed of educators, researchers, students, advocates, community groups and parents who are committed to institutionalizing culturally responsive-sustaining education in New York City public schools for the long term.

Since 2018, this group has worked together to push the NYC Department of Education to adopt policies and practices at the school, district and central level that embody and enact culturally responsive-sustaining education. The Working Group drafted and collaborated with the NYC DOE to pass their definition of Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CRSE) in 2019. After the definition passed, we have continued to work with the DOE to roll out the definition by providing professional learning across the school system, and by making changes to the school accountability and reporting system to incorporate CRSE.

Most recently, the NYC CRE Working Group, together with EduColor, released this CRSE Facilitators Guide for educators, schools and organizations wanting to facilitate and expand the work of CRSE in their schools, classrooms, and beyond.

Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Facilitator's Guide

This guide is for those wanting to facilitate and expand the work of CRSE in their schools, classrooms, and beyond.
