Mellie Torres is a 4th year doctoral candidate in the Department of Teaching and Learning at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Her article, "From the Bricks to the Hall" was recently published in the Consejos: The Undergraduate Experiences of Latino/a Students, a special issue of the Harvard Educational Review, Winter 2009 Edition.
She has been involved in various research, evaluation and advocacy projects at Metro Center. Mellie's proposed dissertation will explore the relationship between the multiple and intersecting social identities of Latino males and their academic identities. She is a former high school mathematics teacher in her hometown of Newark, NJ.
