Dr. Pedro Noguera announced that Dr. Edward Fergus has been promoted to Deputy Director of the Center and will supervise all aspects of the Center's operations, activities, and programs. Dr. Fergus began his tenure at Metro Center as project associate with the Equity Assistance Center.
A former high school teacher, he has and continues to provide technical assistance and analysis on education history, policy, and research to school districts. He has published various articles on disproportionality in special education, race/ethnicity in schools, and is the author of Skin Color and Identity Formation: Perceptions of Opportunity and Academic Orientation among Mexican and Puerto Rican Youth (Routledge Press, 2004).
An NYU professor, Fergus teaches courses on Latinos in urban education. A former professor at Hunter College, Dr. Fergus has helped various organizations develop standards for evaluating the effectiveness of after school programs.
