On December 12, 2009 the Metro Center's Upward Bound program conducted a successful Financial Aid Workshop for parents and high school seniors. The seniors participate in the Upward Bound/1199 WorkForce program, the Let's Get Ready! Program, and the APEX program.
This workshop entitled Everything you need to know to begin the Financial Aid Application part of the College Planning Process was attended by over 100 students and parents.
Ms. Marilyn Sommer was joined by Ms. Judy Hernandez, Manager of Joseph Tauber Scholarship Program for 1199/SEIU, and together they covered everything from sources of financial aid, to setting up a federal student aid pin number, along with vital information and strategies to complete the FAFSA on-line application, scholarships and various Grant programs. They answered questions and shared their expertise about the nuances of scholarship processing and special circumstances regarding federal aid and loan programs.
Pat Ryan-Canedo, Director of UB, along with Aileen Moner, Coordinator of APEX, joined with UB/1199 WorkForce Fieldwork Counselors and Applied Psychology Interns in greeting guests and distributing packets of the most up to date financial aid information.
This was the second part of the fall College Planning Workshop series lead by Upward Bound Assistant Director, Marilyn Sommer.
